Kanan star wars rebels

When it comes to Star Wars characters, I’ve always dug the real rebels. Not the Luke Skywalkers or the Yodas of that franchise, but the guys who did things their own way, no matter which side they were on. Guys like Han Solo, Boba Fett and Mara Jade.

And in the new Star Wars animated series, it’s take a rebel to lead a ragtag group of renegades.

With most of the Jedi wiped out after Order 66, very few of the warrior monks are left alive and have gone underground in order to escape the Empire. One such Jedi? Kanan, who will be voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr in the new series. Having had to hide his abilities after the Jedi purge, Kanan is roguh with the force and more at home with a blaster than with a lightsaber. Of course, Kanan will have to adapt or die as the show starts.

“In the original movie, you see a bunch of guys in orange jumpsuits running around and not know who they are,” Prinze Jr., told USA Today. “This is the start of it: the sacrifices that those orange jumpsuits made and the families those orange jumpsuits lost and the hatred that you would have for somebody who would literally kill your wife and child because they wanted your property.”

Prinze also explained that Kanan would be thrown back into his Jedi heritage as the show began:

He’s been forced to shove a massive part of his life under the bed, so to speak. Is he living a lie? At a certain point, the lie kind of becomes the reality. And to suddenly be forced back into your Jedi ways, it’d be a bit of a challenge for him. And pretty awesome, too, when you can see what a Jedi can actually do.

Kanan sounds like an awesome character actually. What do you think? Star Wars Rebels arrives later this year on the Disney XD channel.

“Mara Jade? Who is that?” is what George Lucas would apparently say since he claims to have never read any of the Extended Universe stuff.
Humfff (Yes, I’m still miffed that Lucas said only that which was in the movies will be considered canon)
