Plenty of new releases hit the North American box office this past weekend, bringing some serious competition to the current cinema darling, The Lego Movie. Robot cops, more Kevin Hart and Russell Crowe in a winter wonderland were just some of the new flicks gunning for the top spot.

But dead or alive, there could be only one number one movie, and that film was……Not Robocop. The Lego Movie maintained the top spot over the weekend, raking in another $48.8 million. Robocop debuted at third place, taking in $21.5 million. That’s more than the $8 million than the original film made on opening weekend. But then again, that movie was released in 1987, and that result hasn’t been adjusted for inflation. About Last Night beat Rebootcop to second place, scoring $27 million and another win for Kevin Hart, while the new fantasy movie starring Russell Crowe bombed in at sixth place with $7.7 million. Here’s how everyone else did:

  • The Lego Movie – $48.8 Million
  • About Last Night – $27 Million
  • Robocop – $21.5 Million
  • The Monument’s Men – $15 Million
  • Endless Love – $13.3 Million
  • Ride Along – $8.7 Million
  • Winter’s Tale – $7.7 Million
  • Frozen – $5.8 Million
  • Lone Survivor – $4 Million
  • That Awkward Moment – $3.3 Million

Top ten departures this week include Vampire Academy, That Awkward Moment, The Nut Job and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Vampire Academy is the biggest bomb here, with a two week run that nailed in a stake of only $6.6 million in the US of A. FAiring only marginally better, the latest Jack Ryan bowed out after five weeks, making $122 million worldwide.

Deep Blue Sea 2 could be his story from inside the shark as told from a perspective like Shawshank redemption. Now that I would watch!
