Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Another day, another casting for the Batman Smallville, Gotham. Say what you want, but you have to admit that the show has attracted a ton of great actors so far. Next on the list? Jada Pinkett Smith, who’ll be playing a villain. Saddled with the horrible name of Fish Mooney, Pinkett will be unleashing her rage on Gotham as an “imposing and hot-headed sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner who has the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book.”

In other completely unconfirmed and hopefully false news, Jaden Smith has been cast as Dick Grayson and Willow Smith will appear as Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Great Scott, what a regeneration!

Extras-bullet-points-micro3The Movies still isn’t considered cool enough to attend press junkets, but that will all change once we intitiate Operation Top Billing and spend half the day talking about Tuscan design villa influences. Until then, we’ll just have to make do hating other movie websites, like Collider who learnt 90 facts about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past movie.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Speaking of X-Men movies, here’s five new images for Days of Future Past, which do nothing to help my crippling Jennifer Lawrence addiction.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3You go to the movies, and 11 times out of ten, that film is in a 16:9 horizontal ratio. I’m fine with. Some folks aren’t. Like this group of filmmakers in the Netherlands, who want to push for more movies to be filmed in a vertical format. Much like a hastily-whipped out iPhone capturing two bums fighting.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3Man, if I had known that banking was this metal, I’d have studied accounting and money-laundering instead if interpretative dance at university.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3That’s game, set and match Danny Boyle. The Slumdog director has a ton of projects on his plate, but it looks like his next film could be based in the world of tennis. Specifically the match played in 1973 between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King that was dubbed the original “Battle of the Sexes”. That’s a great setup for a film and worth reading up on, but what’s even better is that this film will reunite Boyle with Slumdog and 127 hours co-workers, writer Simon Beaufoy and producer Christian Colson.

Extras-bullet-points-micro3One of the greatest superhero movies in my opinion, has to be Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. You don’t get adaptations any better than that. Unless it stars the cast of SpongeBob Squarepants that is.
