Paul Bettany talks about his Vision in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

I like the idea behind recent Marvel movies, as they cherry-pick the best plots and ideas from their source material to create a film that is worth watching. In the long run, it helps create a cohesive universe, and I don’t think that anyone will complain about the fact that Tony Stark’s personal AI system JARVIS is going to get an upgrade into the synthetic form of the Vision.Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote Transcendence, JARVIS voice actor and soon to be Vision physical actor Paul Bettany spoke about his powers in the Avengers sequel and dealing with the loss of having to stick around for more than a morning in his new role.

Can’t watch Jimmy Kimmel because your boss is looking over your shoulder? Well here’s what Bettany had to say about the Vision’s powers:

Oh I can do all sorts of things, but I’m not allowed to really talk about them and what we’re going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room who will actually wrestle me to the ground and fire me.

In the comics, Vision has the stock-standard super-strength, durability and flight powers. He also rocks an intangibility mode, the odd laser and various technical robot MacGuffins based on whoever is writing him at the time. That’s a lot of powers, and will most likely result in a “pick and choose” situation during the film when it comes to showcasing his talents. That, and he’ll be doing more than just a quick voice-over job for once:

It’s very exciting for me, but everything is a double edged sword, right? Because I was playing J.A.R.V.I.S. for years and my job was I would turn up at a recording studio for 45 minutes, do all my stuff, and then they would give ma huge bag of cash and then I’d go home. Now it turns out they’ve found me out and they want me to actually do something!

Avengers Part Deux is currently shooting around the world with Joss Whedon once again directing. It’ll be out May 1 next year, and also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Spader.
