- A few weeks back, I showed you the poster for Wolfcop, a movie that looked so bad I just had to see it (The tagline is “Dirty Harry… only hairier!” How can you say no to that?!). And now the first trailer for Wolfcop is here, and it looks like the movie is definitely living up to its poster.
- This two blog posts from ex-ILM senior VP Scott A. Ross on how two very important ILM employees ended up banned from Skywalker Ranch, as well as how he ended up “resigning” from the company due to bad management and George Lucas’ myopia may be a bit of a long read, but it’s totally worth it.
- X-Men: Days of Future Past has just received its MPAA rating of PG-13, which isn’t really a big surprise. I mean, it looks to be pretty dark with some definite violent scenes thrown in. However, there’s another reason it apparently got that rating: Nudity. And I can already hear the chants of “Please be nekkid, Jennifer Lawrence” starting up.
- One X-Man who is definitely not afraid to show a little skin (and really big you-know-what) is Michael Fassbender. The actor is set to star in upcoming video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed, and looks like he’s brought a friend along with him. Jacob Kurzel, who has just finished directing Fassbender in Macbeth, has been tapped by New Regency and Ubisoft to helm the time-spanning action adventure film.

- As we’ve mentioned previously, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have a post-credit stinger of its own, but rather is doing some cross-studio promotion for Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Turns out though, that that’s not 100% true as it does have a mid-credits teaser. Kind of. Jumping through some hopes using the Shazam mobile app, it seems viewers can get a copy of the end credits including a few briefly flashed images that may just have revealed the lineup of villains who comprise the Sinister Six.
- Collider sat down with Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, to talk all thing’s Daredevil, specifically the Netflix series set to launch next year. Written, directed and produced by Cabin in the Woods’ Drew Goddard, Daredevil will be the first of four Netflix series all set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen (the others being Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones), that will eventually lead to a Defenders mini-series, and Quesada spoke about how far along in the production they are, as well as what we can expect from it tonally.
“The scripts are coming in. They are pretty fantastic. They’re really emotional. They’re very, very original. But at the same time, it is Daredevil. It is Matt Murdock. We will eventually, hopefully start casting really, really soon, but I’m very, very excited about it.”
“Although these are superhero stories, this is different now. This is the street level…this is the street level noir side of the Marvel Universe. Something that you haven’t really, really seen in any of our Marvel movies. And probably more ground level, than I think you’ve seen. This is not like us doing Batman, Dark Knight or any of that stuff. This is very Marvel doing street level superheroes.”
- The big news of the day is clearly the Star Wars: Episode VII cast announcement. Out of the 7 new names added to the list, the one that most people have probably never heard of is Daisy Ridley. The young actress is fairly unknown as she hasn’t done anything big yet, but luckily she has done something short though. The sci-fi short film Blue Season was an entrant in the Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film Challenge, and gives us a pretty good look at her acting chops.
- Every Monday morning, the internet is ablaze with people grumbling about Game of Thrones spoiler. Quite often, the merciless response to these gripes are “Well, you should have read the books, and then you wouldn’t have any spoilers!”, but this past Monday something quite unexpected happened. In the season 4, fourth episode, “Oathkeeper” (which airs locally on the May 9), the TV series gave away a huge plot point that had only been speculated about in the novel up until this point. Needless to say, book readers are not too happy.
- Speaking of upcoming stuff with dragons in it, a new featurette for How To Train Your Dragon 2 has flown in, specifically looking at how things have changed in the land of Berk in the five years since the first film.
- And just for Darryn, Cracked has put together a list of the 9 Strangest Episodes in the history of Power Rangers.
- How to become an intense actor like Tom Hardy in two easy steps: Treat yourself as just meat, and look at videos of yourself all the time. Hardy will soon be starring in Locke, Steven Knight’s highly buzzed drama that consists of nothing but Hardy driving in a car, talking to various people on a carphone as he tries to stop his life from falling apart, and the actor spoke to The Wrap about how he manages to get that level of acting intensity that he does.
“I see myself as a piece of meat. And it’s purely subjective. For me, I know that’s the best I can do.”
“I’m a bit of a micromanager. In the early days, directors and producers would get nervous about me being in the video village. But to me it really is a tool, just a fucking tool. I need to make sure that my tone is working, that’s not about vanity, it’s about is it working? I’m not saving lives, mate, but a surgeon would look at footage and the video of other people doing surgery, or a formula one racer would watch a lap where someone took a corner, or a boxer would watch another boxer fight, I’d watch a screen and say, ‘OK, that’s bullshit, we’ve got to work on that.’
“Some people do have a problem looking at that, they say, ‘Oh shit, that changes everything,’” he acknowledged. “But I’m 45 films deep now, I’m a bit old and ugly for it, I kind of get it, and I want to know how can I be more immersed in this world.”
- It’s a well known fact that Peter Dinklage is the true star of Game of Thrones, but did you know that the show’s incredible theme song was actually all about him?
