As you may know, The Movies is actually a spinoff sister site of Lazygamer.net. It was through gaming (specifically, many partially drunk nights of Gears of War) that I first became good friends with Gavin, Geoff and most of the rest of the LG crew, and while my love of movies led me here, I’m still a gamer at heart. Much like so many of you reading this, I’m sure, as gaming has infiltrated mainstream pop culture like never before. It’s gone from a few socially awkward geeks playing with a couple lines and a bouncing dot on a black screen, to a multi-billion dollar entertainment industry that rivals and in some regards has surpassed the movie biz.
And the very succinctly named Video Games: The Movie wants to tell you the story of just how it did that. Produced by Zach Braff, narrated by Sean Astin and featuring interviews with a who’s who of gaming and geek culture, this new documentary, which started life on Kickstarter, will show you gaming’s humble past and attempt to predict its ambitious future. And now there’s a demo trailer out to give you a sneak peek of just what to expect.
From executive producer Zach Braff comes an epic feature length documentary chronicling the meteoric rise of video games from nerd niche to multi-billion dollar industry. Featuring in-depth interviews with the godfathers who started it all, the icons of game design, and the geek gurus who are leading us into the future, VIDEO GAMES: THE MOVIE is a celebration of gaming from Atari to Xbox, and an eye-opening look at what lies ahead.
Video Games: The Movie hits limited North American theatres on July 15, 2014, but will be available for VOD purchase from http://videogamesthemovie.com/ on the very same day.

This I will be watching. I want to see if it’s as good as the English Television documentary.
