Rumour – Sylvester Stallone is coming back for RAMBO V

Rambo has to be one of my favourite guilty pleasure flicks. It’s got such a rotten story, but at the same time, it’s just so Rambo. Mindless carnage. Terrible supporting characters. Enough bullets to level Stalingrad. All of which adds up to a great film. It’s also pretty much the final Rambo movie, as the fifth film has been in limbo for way too long. But with The Expendables franchise winding up, it looks like Sly Stallone may be kitting up once more to go to war.

There have been a bunch of Rambo V concepts thrown around in recent years. One idea was to have Rambo return to his hometown and take down a racist white supremacist group while doing some binding with his family. Hell, at one point Rambo was even going to hunt a killer beast down and tussle with it before that story was mercifully killed off.

But according to a press release from Splendid Medien AG, a “medium-sized, integrated media group,” Rambo will be taking a trip to little Mexico:

With “Rambo V” Sylvester Stallone returns to his signature role. This time he messes with the Mexican cartel. Stallone, who is also responsible for the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of “No Country for Old Men.” Producer is like the last “Rambo”, Avi Lerner (“The Expendables 1-3″).

That’s a decent setup, but I’ll be nursing a salt lick until I hear some official confirmation from the man himself, considering that the last bit of Rambo news came from around the same time as The Expendables 3 was announced. Still, I like the drug cartel angle. It’s gives Rambo a new enemy to face after having single-handedly ripped the throats out of the Soviet and Burmese war machines, and with drug-trafficking giving way to sex slaves and human organ traffickers, a new face to motivate the former soldier to pick up his weapons.

Back in 2012, Stallone talked about that script, saying “He’s in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don’t think Rambo likes Mexicans.” Stallone also mentioned that Rambo would go down fighting in the fifth film, thus finally ending the franchise and finding some measure of peace.

What?! He becomes interesting?! Haven’t seen it yet, will watch it on Friday. Hoping it will pick up as it’s lost something that the first 2 eps had (they have differnt directors each 2 eps, I can see that…)
