So last night Nick and I watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. You can expect his full review on Monday, but I can’t wait, I just have to tell you guys about [———–REDACTED———–]. I know that fans of the surprisingly good first will also want to know that [———–REDACTED———–] and especially when [———–REDACTED———–].

The moment that I cannot get out of my head though is [———–REDACTED———–], but not before [———–REDACTED———–]. Seriously, you guys are going to [———–REDACTED———–]. You know what I mean?

You can watch the movie for yourself when it releases next week Friday, but in the meantime, 20th Century Fox have released these 3 rather cool prequel short films (via /Film), that bridge the 10-year gap between the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the start of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Watch and enjoy!

Spread of Simian Flu: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 1)

Directed by Isaiah Seret.

Amidst a widespread viral outbreak known as the “simian flu,” a mother is quarantined after testing positive for the virus, leaving her husband and daughter to fend for themselves.

Struggling to Survive: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 5)

Directed by Daniel Thron.

Five years after the simian flu all but wiped out humanity, an orphaned teenage girl survives by bartering things she has stolen from dead people’s homes.

Story of the Gun: Before the Dawn of the Apes (Year 10)

Directed by “thirty-two.”

Follow the journey of a shotgun through the hands of several ill-fated owners as the simian flu ravages the world around them.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes  is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) and stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer. It is scheduled for release on July 11, 2014.

Not watched 2 and 3 but the first was effing brilliant. I’ve always enjoyed the post-apocalyptic but also the process from the apocalypse to the aftermath. This one is very good at that. What alot of post-apoc stories fail on (like WWZ) is the focus on the quiet mundanities. Survival isn’t just about fighting the monsters.

It’s about the most basic things like finding a home and food, which that first film did very well
