Watching this trailer for upcoming thriller Before I Go To Sleep – with its story of an amnesiac who has to leave herself notes every day since she can’t make any new memories past a short period of time and who has to solve the mystery behind a violent assault that left her in this diminished state – you would be very hard pressed to not immediately think that this is simply ripping off Memento, Christopher “Dark Knight Trilogy” Nolan’s 2000 breakout hit. But I’m here to point out that there in fact some very marked differences between the two films.

Firstly, it’s based on a British novel of the same name and not a short story written by Chris Nolan’s younger brother a decade before, it also stars a breathy and constantly on the point of tears Nicole Kidman instead of a badass tattooed Guy Pearce. Let’s also not forget that never did Joe Pantoliano’s character try to make out with Guy Pearce’s while sitting in a car. And then there’s…

Crap. I got nothing else. So, er, just go watch the trailer and pretend it’s not ripping off Memento? Pretty please?

An adaptation of British author Steve Watson’s debut novel “Before I Go to Sleep.” A woman wakes up every day, remembering nothing as a result of a traumatic accident in her past. One day, new terrifying truths emerge that force her to question everyone around her.

Before I Go To Sleep is written and directed by Rowan Joffe (The American, 28 Weeks Later)It is scheduled for a limited release on September 12, 2014.
