Say what you like about DC and their big screen ideas, but the comic book company clearly has the right guys on the job when it comes to small screen adventures. After a rocky start, Arrow has become one of the defining series to bring street-level superheroics onto TV, with positive word of mouth that the upcoming Flash series is going to knock your socks off. But in season 3, you can expect another iconic hero to make an impact, with Brandon Routh portraying this incarnation. And it won’t be Superman.
Routh, who you might remember from Superman Returns (Boo-urns!) and Scott Pilgrim (Yay!) will be showing up as Ray Palmer, scientiest, adventurer and the sueprhero known as the Atom. Think Ant-Man, but with even more impressive shrinking powers and with another Edgar Wright connection.
According to TV Line, this is the current official description for the character:
An unparalleled scientist and inventor, Ray will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumored love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.
Routh won’t be the only new face on the season 3 block however. Come October, Arrow will debut a new version of Count Vertigo as played by Peter Stormare, Werner Zytle and Katana herself, as she wields and steals a few spirits with her Soul-Taker sword. Should be interesting to see how season 2 plays out. As for Routh joining the cast, it’s great to see him back. And it’s great for one of the unsung DC heroes to finally get some more well-deserved screen time.

Cool. I like him. He was the best part of that abortion of a Superman movie, other than the fact it ended.

Yeah, one of the saddest results of Superman Returns’ failure was that Routh didn’t end up doing more. He really was far and above the best thing about the movie, and probably the first actor since Christopher Reeve that made the “disguise” even remotely believable.
