With the recent glut of YA film adaptations popping up quicker than Darryn at a cake buffet, it’s easy for the few really good looking ones to get overlooked. But one such film I’ve been keeping a very steady eye on in is The Maze Runner. It has no awkward (sometimes cross-species) love triangles, no gloomy teenage girls trying to discover who they are, and no future societies governed by law seemingly made up by a drunk 9-year old.
What it does have is an intriguing mystery as its central premise (not too mention a really epic scope in the stories to come), a talented young cast, a very promising first time feature film director in Wes Ball, and lots of crazy love from fans of the original novel who got to see the full movie during a secret screening at Comic-Con and can’t stop buzzing about it.
Couple that with this new, very exciting trailer and I’m very much looking forward to getting lost in this maze.
When Thomas (O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape. Based on the best-selling novel by James Dashner.
Along with the trailer, 9 new posters have also been unveiled, and some of them are actually really good. Not only do they boast some creative designs, but with one muted exception, they’re even using colours other than just orange and teal!
The Maze Runner stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter. It’s scheduled for release on September 19, 2014.
