As you may have heard, there are remakes of Bloodsport and Kickboxer in the works. While the idea of a new Bloodsport chills my blood, a revisit to Kickboxer is a different story. And it has now attracted some serious martial arts talent.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project can count Tony Jaa and Scott Adkins among its cast. They are joining lead Alain Moussi, pro-wrestler-turned-galactic-hero Dave Bautista and Georges St. Pierre, one of the best MMA fighters to have ever lived. If you have seen the original, you’d notice that this is a rather big cast for Kickboxer. This is because the producers appear to be confusing it with Bloodsport – the film will feature over 20 different fighting styles, suggesting either a tournament or just a crazy amount of cameos.
Still, whatever the direction, this is an impressive cast. Jaa needs no introduction – that is unless you have never seen Ong Bak or The Protector. Then again, if you haven’t why would you care about a Kickboxer remake? Adkins is a bit of a b-movie star, but fans of the genre will remember his work in Ninja and The Expendables 2. Bautista is a big star now, yet has cut his martial arts teeth in the under-rated Man With The Iron Fists. This is Moussi’s first major part though, having done a lot of bit roles and stunt work.
But this roster really needs a feminine touch: is anyone giving Gina Carano or JeeJa Yanin a call?
Here’s the plot:
Kickboxer tells the story of David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Venice, California, fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother’s protestations that the man is a crook. When Kurt travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died and seeks his revenge.
Kickboxer will be directed by Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero).
Bonus trivia: Jean-Claude Van Damme was not supposed to make Kickboxer. But Bloodsport took so long to get released that he signed up to do more b-movies, the first being Kickboxer.

This really excites me. Big fan of Jaa, Adkins and GSP.
