The Russo brothers talk CAPTAIN AMERICA 3

Marvel is currently experiencing yet another great year, with Guardians Of The Galaxy being universally loved and the buzz for Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron climbing a skyscraper like an unleashed Hulk. One other film that did well this year? The Captain America sequel, which swapped nostalgic World War 2 fisticuffs for a more sophisticated spy thriller. The Russo brothers will be back to direct the third Cap film, and expect this one to explore the relationship between the super and winter soldiers.

Captain America Winter Soldier ca (9)

Speaking to Yahoo Movies, the Russos explained that Captain America 3 would take place several years after the events of The Winter Soldier, with Cap exploring his less than ideal relationship with his brother in arms Bucky, the Winter Soldier who was brainwashed into a merciless Soviet killing machine.

Other than that though, the Russos were tight-lipped on specifics, but they did mention the overall themes of the film:

Although the heart of the movie will be Steve Rogers’ complicated relationship with his childhood friend Bucky Barnes, the themes of politics and power will still be in play. “The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it’s hard to get away from that nature,” Anthony tells Yahoo. It’s also important to the directors that Captain America doesn’t become another disillusioned antihero. As Joe sees it, “his morality is part of his superpower.”

And that’s what I dig about the Captain America character. He’s a hero who embodies the best aspects of the American dream, a character who will fight against his own government in the pursuit of liberty and justice. That’s a powerful concept when you think about it, and one that needs to still be the core of the character.

Cap America

Hell, I don’t care how cheesy anyone finds it, that’s Captain America to me. And I’m looking forward to seeing what makes him so super in the next film.

So no news, really. I mean, that’s kinda where the second film left off – with the captain and his sidekick off to find Bucky. But I do agree that his principles are the character’s strong points. I did not like the first film, but Avengers won me over to him and his sequel was very solid. Looking forward to number 3!

This line just confirmed that they got Captain America 100% right:

“There’s only one God, ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that.”
