I am yet to watch BBC’s Downton Abbey, but I keep hearing really good things about it. I am yet to watch 2013 indie horror You’re Next, but I keep hearing good things about it. What do these two things have to do with this article about some trailers for a movie called The Guest? Well, said movie stars Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens and was directed by You’re Next‘s Adam Wingarde. And guess what? I’ve been hearing really good things about it.

The Guest has just hit the film festival circuit thus far, but as that star-laden poster up top attests, it’s been a bit of a hit with the folks who have seen it. The film’s marketing, with it’s moodiness and abundance of magenta, is blatantly trying to grab the Drive crowd, but based on all the positive buzz for the movie itself, I’m going to give that a pass for now. Especially since the film – as can be seen in both the US and UK trailers below – eschews all Drive‘s artiness for straight-up 90’s throwback, skop, skiet en donner action, which according to the early reviews it does very well.

A soldier (Dan Stevens) introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

The Guest also stars Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Chase Williamson and Brendan Meyer. It is scheduled for a limited release on September 17, 2014.
