Loki to play Ben-Hur?

Hurr hurr hurr

Tom Hiddleston is being sought to fill the sandals once worn by the late Charlton Heston in the new adaption of the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ by Lew Wallace. This will be the third adaption following the afore-mentioned 1959 Charlton Heston epic and the original 1925 silent film.

However, it will boil down to a matter of scheduling as there are numerous productions seeking his talents following his notable success in playing the character Loki in both the recent Thor movies and The Avengers.

A brief synopsis of the story is as follows:

“Judah Ben-Hur lives as a rich Jewish prince and merchant in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 1st century. Together with the new governor his old friend Messala arrives as commanding officer of the Roman legions. At first they are happy to meet after a long time but their different politic views separate them. During the welcome parade a roof tile falls down from Judah’s house and injures the governor. Although Messala knows they are not guilty, he sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. But Judah swears to come back and take revenge.”

It seems like a very good fit, Hiddleston is known for his dramatic acting ability on stage & screen and has shown he’s more than capable of action during his portrayal of Loki in the Marvel movies; which is exactly what an historical epic such as this needs from its lead.

The remake will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) working off a script originally written by Keith R. Clarke with revisions from John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), and is scheduled to be released 26 February 2016.

And because no day is complete without a chariot race, here is one of the most famous scenes from the 1959 classic. Giddy up!

Wow. I can’t believe they’re only making a re-re-make of Ben Hur now.
