These three new STAR WARS REBELS TV spots are a part of something big

Rebels 3

As most of you know, I’m a gigantic Star Wars nerd, and no, I’m not just talking about my imposing physical stature. While I may hold the Great Neckbearded Flannel aka George Lucas in much esteem anymore, I’ve spent most of my life enjoying adventures in the universe he helped create. Which is why it was a bit odd that I wasn’t really pumped for one of the latest entrants in that universe: Star Wars.

After the awesomeness of Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars (note to self: You really need to finish that show one of these days), Disney’s new animated offering just seemed overly kiddie to me (the one guy uses a laser kettie… LASER… KETTIE…) which put a real damper on it for me. However, since then I’ve watched small snippets of the show which impressed me a fair bit, heard the rumours of how the show’s story may just be tying into the new upcoming movies and suddenly found myself counting down the days until Star Wars Rebels hits our TV screens. And these new TV spots are not helping.

The show will be kicking off on Friday 3 October on Disney Channels around the world with an one-hour movie titled Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion is set to premiere Friday, October 3. The show features the voice talents of Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Tiya Sircar, Steven Blum, Vanessa Marshall, Jason Isaacs and David Oyelowo.

I wonder what the sound effect for the laser kettie sounds like.

This header image is the pic that made me lose faith in Disney. ‘n Fkn kettie! Are you kidding me?? No. No Disney, it’s not cutesy or creative, it’s stupid. If you think this kind of thinking is going to get you anywhere near the awesomeness of the Clone Wars you are sadly mistaken.
Maybe you’ll make the movies work, but I’ve already been shown that you can’t make the animated series work.

Dude, that’s what I thought as well until Disney showed us footage from the show’s first episode, and it was surprisingly less kiddified than I thought it would be. While the kettie is still a silly design, the tone seems to be very similar to Clone Wars.

I don’t know. I’m not sold at all. I work with Disney on a weekly basis and from everything I’ve seen around the animated series I haven’t been impressed.
They have big plans and show fantastic things to the press, but it still just feels a bit too much like all the other Disney animated shows out there. Maybe I’m completely wrong (and I hope I am), and they show up with an impressive series.
But that kettie, that’s proof that Disney isn’t afraid to change the dynamics of a series that’s been built up for tens of years.

I don’t know why you’re so dead set against the kettie. It worked like a boss in Die Swart Kat.

            That’s unassailable logic right there.

Remember the episode where he was in a coma and a doctor came up with three different ‘antidotes’ and told his parents that two will kill him and only one could save him? I remember he briefly got out of his coma to tell his parents “Number 3… number3…. number3…”
