Daniel Radcliffe’s post-Harry Potter career has been a very intriguing thing to watch. Even when he was still playing the Boy Who Lived, it was readily apparent in interviews and TV appearances that Radcliffe was far more interesting than just having a scar on his forehead in the shape of a meteorological event, and now that he’s all grown up those interesting elements are really coming to the fore in his recent role choices.

And that’s seemingly never more apparent than his latest film Horns. Featuring a strong cast, with the talented French director Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) behind the camera and based on a totally batshit crazy sounding story from Joe Hill – none other than horror maestro Stephen King’s son – Horns looks to be a film that not only provides writers like me with an endless supply of “horny Harry Potter” gag headlines, but actually looks devilishly good (you see what I did there?) – something that’s especially true (and punny) in this new UK trailer.

Horns, a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery, and romance, follows Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Juno Temple). Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

This rock and roll infused dark fantasy explores why bad things happen to good people and what the loss of true love can do to a man. The widely acclaimed book was on the New York Times bestseller list for six weeks and has become an international bestseller as well.

Along with that incredibly dark trailer, two new character posters featuring Radcliffe and co-star Juno Temple have also been revealed. And they both look a bit… cross, if you know what I mean.

So I stop watching Harry Potter for a few years and he learns to act, my bad.

Rewatching this trailer, I realized something. Radcliffe has just had his “The Departed” moment. Lemme explain: Leonardo DiCaprio has always been a talented actor, but the one thing holding him back (at least in my opinion) in a few of his roles, was his eternally youthful pretty boy face. Go check out The Aviator. He looks like he could be in his 20’s for most of the movie – a screechy man-child – even when he’s supposed to be playing a middle-aged Howard Hughes.
Then along comes The Departed, and all of a sudden DiCaprio is no longer the pretty boy. He’s this intense man, sporting a proper beard even, and he’s suddenly waaaaay more believable, and more intimidating on screen.
The same happened with Radcliffe. While I really enjoyed The Woman In Black, his character looked like he could be his son’s brother in that movie. Like some lost kid, who stuck on a fake moustache and got caught up in a Scooby Doo adventure.
In this though, he looks all grown up and serious, and thus seems to elevate the role a bit.

Agreed. I loathed Leonardo DiCaprio’s earlier fims because of his look. It overshadowed the work he did and when The Departed and Blood Diamond hit, I was like WTF!?! He was suddenly awesome.
I like Radcliffe’s accent in this as well. The movie looks very interesting.
