What you’re about to witness is possibly the most expensive piece of fan fiction since Fifty Shades of Grey turned Edward and Bella from Twilight into sex-fiends. This first trailer for Playing It Cool (formerly titled A Many Splintered Thing) claims to be poking fun at really generic, paint by numbers rom-coms and then turns out to be exactly that. The difference though is that this really generic, paint by numbers rom-com has Falcon and Venom giving Captain America advice on how to steal Mr. Fantastic’s girlfriend. Seriously.

The story of a young man disillusioned by love who meets a breathtaking young woman at a charity dinner by pretending to be a philanthropist. Turns out that she’s engaged to a guy who doesn’t like her going on dates. Challenged by the chase, and egged on by his eclectic friends, he feigns a platonic relationship in order to keep seeing her as he tries to conquer her heart.

Wow. Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Philip Baker Hall, Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza and Luke Wilson? That is far too much talent assembled in one place for that many played out cliches and genre tropes. Expect this one to probably kill at the box office.

Playing It Cool is directed by newcomer Justin Reardon. The film does not have a release date yet.

Wow, great trailer. That was literally the entire movie. Complete with the final chase down and declaration of love to a teary eyed girl. Why bother releasing movies guys.
