Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to team up for BOURNE 5

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are to movies what cheese and onion are to chips: Terrible when seperated. For a while now, it seemed like Damon was done playing Jason Bourne on the big screen, refusing to return unless director Greengrass was at the helm. Greengrass on the other hand, claimed to be out of ideas. Well stand back, because it looks like the duo have been…Bourne again.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures have begun courting the two to return to the franchise, which didn’t exactly set the box office on fire with the previous film, The Bourne Legacy. That film starred Jeremy Renner as a spin-off agent, although the door was open to make a sequel. But as THR added, if Greengrass and Damon return, that sequel will most likely be shelved from it’s intended release date of July 2016, for the foreseeable future.

If Damon and Greengrass do jump in for a fifth Bourne movie, it could also see Greengrass script as well as direct. As for Damon, he’ll be teaming up with director Kenneth Lonergan next, for a Manchester By The Sea, then moving on to work with Ridley Scott on The Martian.

What do you think? Keen to see more of Bourne, or is the box office already crowded with far too many films about older gents using a very specific set of skills to kill their way to an end goal? Persoanlly, I kinda dug the Bourne Legacy, which had some interesting ideas, and it’d be a shame to not make use of Renner in a true Bourne sequel.

The guys at Latino Review reported to have heard about this like 4 months ago, and back then producer Frank Marshall seriously took them to task for spreading false rumours. And now its actually happening.

If the rest of the Latino Review not-rumour pans out as well, then the next Jeremy Renner pick is just going to be pushed back a year or so, and the two movies will then have elements that tie into each other, and will eventually culminate in another movie featuring both Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross.

Nice. I don’t want Renner’s films to disappear, but I’m also keen for more of Damon’s stuff.

Indiewire has a good write-up on it that seems to imply that the studio really wanted Damon back so badly, that when he finally showed the slightest bit of interest after years of saying no, they immediately pushed back Renner’s next flick, just in case, to make room for a Damon led film if he actually agreed to it. This move apparently even came as a surprise to Renner and his agent.

But then Damon held off on ommitting to another movie until he had the right story and director (he apparently has story and director approval as part of his contract). And since Damon may still have just passed it up again, the producers just went and denied everything all over the place rather than get ahead of themselves, and they even kept Renner and co in the dark until everything looked good to go with Damon.
