Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!
- You’re about to either be given a big injection of nightmare fuel, or have you totally freaky dreams comes true. Here’s a pic of Jeremy Renner in full costume as Hawkeye on the set of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, WEARING BLACK WIDOW’S FACE!
No, the arrow-slinging hero hasn’t been turned to the bad side again and gone all Hannibal Lecter, but rather he posted this creepy pic of himself wearing a mask usually worn by stunt people when they stand in for an actor – in this case Scarlett Johansson during shooting.
- Since I don’t want to be known as the guy who spoils stuff for people, I won’t give out any specifics, but a certain dancing actor on Game of Thrones who seemed to take meet his end in the the season four finale, is hinting that you haven’t seen the last of him. I’m personally hoping that he shouted that up at the heavens while lightning struck behind him, like some kind of Scooby Doo villain.
- Speaking of not giving away spoilers, a few more Star Wars: Episode VII set pics of those things that we will not speak of that we also did not speak of last week, has now popped up online. These pics are a much more close-up look, and if I could speak about them, I would say that they look awesome./
- The Maze Runner ran right into a whole bunch of dollars this weekend past, which has led the obviously happy studio suits at 20th Century Fox to proclaim that the sequel – an adaptation of The Scorch Trials, the second novel in James Dashner’s YA trilogy – will be hitting screens just a year from now on September 18, 2015. And to prove it, they’ve release the first bit of concept art for the sequel.
- Posters of the day: Gone Girl
- Although it could arguably be said to be the birthplace of the McConaissance, Matthew McConaughey will in fact not be returning for the Magic Mike sequel. So maybe one of you guys could take his place? No, seriously. For the sake of my unfortunately vivid imagination, I wish was kidding, but star (butt star?) Channing Tatum has announced the Magic Mike Contest which will allow one person to win a job as an extra in Magic Mike XXL. Removal of your clothes and grinding of your hips may be optional.
- Looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt is about to get *cough* snowed in *cough*. If you’re wondering why I suddenly developed chest problems, it’s because JGL is apparently circling the lead role as real life CIA whistle blower Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone’s upcoming The Snowden Files. And before you ask, no I am not ashamed of that pun.
- If you’ve ever wanted to see Professor X totally fail at using a wheelchair, Wolverine pec-popping a camera or Storm proving Edna Mode from The Incredibles right about capes, then this X-Men: Days of Future Past gag reel is the one for you.
- Now here’s some news to make Darryn cry (which is actually one of my favourite hobbies): Due to his busy schedule helming Star Trek 3, Roberto Orci has dropped out of the planned Power Rangers feature film reboot, which he was supposed to exec produce. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) are still on board to pen the script though.
- Fantastic Fest happened this weekend past, and out of all the films that got showcased there, the two that seems to really have won everybody’s praises are the unlikeliest out of the lot: two slobberknocker action movies in John Wick and Everly. The Keanu Reeves’ starring John Wick (which we showed the really cool trailer for last week) is the debut work of stuntman turned director Chad Stahelski but apparently boasts some of the best action sequences of the year (and in this year, that’s saying something), and the Salma Hayek starring action Everly from director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn) is already being described as “Die Hard with a female”. That’s some seriously high praise, and definitely two movies to keep on the radar.
- By the time you read this, I’ll be on my way to the press screening for The Equalizer. I’ve really been looking forward to this one for a while now, but apparently I will have to temper my expectations, because apparently Denzel Washington just tries way too hard to build suspense in this movie.
