Xenomorphs unlikely in Prometheus sequel

One thing that disappointed many fans of the Aliens universe was that they never got to see a full-fledged Xenomorph get some face(hugging)-time in Prometheus – in spite of them being reasonably clear about it before release. That disappointment looks set to continue as in a recent interview with Yahoo UK, director Ridley Scott had this to say about the iconic sci-fi monster in relation to the sequel:

“The beast is done, cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

He’s got a fair point. The mystery surrounding the Engineers is one of the highlights of Prometheus and perhaps less is more when it comes to an eventual Xenomorph reveal.

Scott also gave a brief status update on the project with “right now, as we speak, it’s being written. I’ve had 15 drafts evolving. I definitely want to do that again because I really enjoyed doing Prometheus.”

If, like me, you’re wondering just where the sequel might be headed Scott added MINOR SPOILER, “you’ll probably have to go with Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and (the) android David (Michael Fassbender) – without his head. Find out how he gets his head back on!”

There was a lot I liked about Prometheus –  it had some solid world-building, gave many hints of the much larger universe that humanity was just venturing out into like toddlers, a solid cast, and was beautifully shot. The problem for me was the sheer number of face-palming decisions taken by practically all the characters, which hopefully is something they’ll address in the sequel.

Don’t know about you, but I’d much rather see more exploration of universe and the role of the Engineers (which I thought looked likely given the ending of the movie) than the adventures of Runs-Away-from-a-Wheel-in-a-Straight-Line Woman and an android trying to get his head screwed back on right. What would you like to see from the sequel?

I don’t think I am at all excited about the next movie. Not after the total let down of Prometheus.

I’ll give it a chance. The only thing really wrong with it was every characters incessant need to run to bad decisions like moths to a flame. Other than that MINOR point… 😉
