Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Congratulations, China! You’re already genetically superior to the rest of us, and now you have better movie titles too. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy, which was a fine enough title already, has been vastly improved when it opened in China as INTERPLANETARY UNUSUAL ATTACKING TEAM!!!! (I may have added the all-caps and exclamation marks, but I feel that’s the only way to really type it).

  • Looks like Denzel Washington has started a trend for badass older gentlemen, because if he can equalize then I guess Bryan Cranston can infiltrate. The Breaking Bad star has signed on to lead The Infiltrator, a new spy flick from Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) based on Federal Agent Robert Mazur’s crazy autobiography. Here’s the synopsis for the book from Amazon.

Federal Agent Robert Mazur spent five years undercover as a money launderer to the international underworld, gaining access to the zenith of a criminal hierarchy safeguarded by a circle of dirty bankers and businessmen who quietly shape power across the globe. These men and women control multibillion-dollar drug-trafficking empires, running their organizations like public companies. Accountants, attorneys, and financial advisors, their roots run deep in their communities, and they are laundering billions of dollars a year, manipulating complex international finance systems to serve drug lords, corrupt politicians, tax cheats, and terrorists. In 1987, Mazur began infiltrating BCCI, bankers behind the Medellín cartel. He meticulously gathered evidence for years until, during a fake wedding, federal agents arrested over 40 high-ranking criminals, who were all found guilty and sent to prison. Never before told, this is the incredible, true story of how he did it.

  • Poster of the day: Powers

“There’s no plans for an ‘Iron Man 4/ There’s no script for ‘Iron Man 4,’ but they do have a plan and I think they’re gonna announce it. You know, [Marvel’s] very secretive about it.”

“…just between us, no, but I’m gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”

  • After that scene in The Wolf of Wall Street, I’m sure that lots of you want to take some more looks Margot Robbie, and you can definitely do that with this first look at her – Oh and also Will Smith – in the upcoming Focus. The movie follows “a romance between a professional conman (Smith) and someone just learning the criminal art (Robbie) and how their past relationship comes back into play when they meet up again years later.”
  • Know what’s worse than getting the songs from Frozen stuck in your head? Getting the 8-bit versions of the songs from Frozen stuck in your head!

  • Move over Underworld (no, not you leather-clad Kate Beckinsale, you can stay), as there’s a new vampires vs werewolves franchise in town! Veteran director Joe Dante (Gremlins) has announced Ombra Amore, a new supernatural action flick that is actually a reworking of another of his projects, Monster Love, that he was trying to get going in 2011. This new version will now be set in Rome, and features a “Romeo and Juliet” styled story of a vampire and werewolf falling in love.

Pete is a werewolf whose pack is a crew of hotheaded financial traders responsible for Italy’s current economic crisis. Maggie is a vampire whose family is a formerly wealthy aristocratic clan brought to bankruptcy by the greedy werewolves. Surrounded by other-worldly troubles, it remains to be seen whether or not their love can survive among the warring families.

“Chris Nolan is great, but I’ve never seen any of the Batman movies all the way through. I know they’re good. I just have zero interest in those kinds of movies.”

“I mean, people are asking me, ‘Is Ben Affleck going to be any good?’ And my attitude is, First of all, why would you ask me? Second, he’s probably going to be very good, and third, frankly, it’s all set up now so that you’re weirdly kind of safe. Once you get in those suits, they really know what to do with you. It was hard then; it ain’t that hard now.”

  • Speaking of people dressed up like bats, here’s the second episode of that new fan-made Nightwing web series. You can check out Part 1 over here.

  • After the recent success of R-Rated comedy Neighbours, screenwriting partners Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien are riding high, but soon they may be riding dead. Which is a sentence with really bad grammar, but the only way I could think of to segue into the news that the pair have sold an original new idea to Fox about a slasher film set in an amusement park called Thrill Ride.

The film is said to be set “at a particularly cruel high school where bullying has become the norm. At Senior Night, the school rents out an amusement park for the entire senior class where everyone rides the rides and plays the games as much as they want with no lines and no rules. The only drawback: students start dying on the rides in elaborate ways. All the exits are sealed, and there is a killer on the loose turning all the rides into ways of punishing the bullies and the so called bad people at school. Kids from all different cliques have to band together to figure out who the killer is and how to stop them.”

  • Just because you know that “Hakuna Matata” means “no worries”, doesn’t make you some kind of expert on The Lion King… You did know it meant “no worries”, right? You didn’t?! Well, then you definitely need to watch this video on “9 things you probably didn’t know about The Lion King“.
