There are many people who find that The Newsroom is just a mouthpiece for writer/creator Aaron Sorkin’s political views, and that also he just uses the show’s format of retroactively dealing with real world news as a means of sticking a honking big “WHY DIDN’T YOU DO IT LIKE THIS?!” in professional journalists’ faces. Quite frankly, I couldn’t give a rodent’s backside about any of that because contrary to what the brilliant Jeff Daniels’ exclaims in the opening seconds of this trailer for the show’s third and final season, The Newsroom is some damn good TV.

Leading the charge as game-changing news anchor McAvoy, Daniels and his co-stars – including Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Olivia Munn(!), Dev Patel, Sam Waterston, Thomas Sadoski and more – electrified a profession that many of us never thought of further than Riaan Cruywagen’s immortal hair. And while Season 1 had a bit of a feeling out process, the show’s sophomore showing fired on all cylinders and left audiences want for more, which we will finally get when The Newsroom returns for a final six-episode hurrah in November.

Yes, just six episodes, because apparently we like this show more than Aaron Sorkin does, as he considers it something he needed to apologize for. That combined with the fact that Season 2 – despite garnering far better ratings as well as a Best Leading Actor Emmy for Daniels – experienced several production issues including costly reshoots, as well as Sorkin’s burgeoning movie career, and all parties agreed to end things on a shorter note, rather than drag it out.

As disappointed as I am at the future lack of Newsroom in my life, I have to respect that decision. And besides, looking at this trailer it looks like we’re in for quite the finale.

The Newsroom returns to US screens for its final season on November 8, 2014. Expect it to follow on local screens soon thereafter.
