Joe Dirte

I may not be a massive fan of David Spade, but the comedian hit a high note for me with the tale of Joe Dirt, life’s biggest loser. Starring Spade as a mullet-headed redneck failure who was looking for the parents who abandoned him at the Grand Canyon, ol’ Joe Dirt toured America and made a few new friends along the way. And almost got his skin peeled off of him by Buffalo Bill Bob. It’s a cult classic movie, and it’s getting a well-deserved sequel.

Spade will return as the eternal optimist, with the film itself being a made for digital TV exclusive sequel under the banner of Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison studio. The film is undeniably stupid, but dammit, I can’t help but love it. Never mind the fact that it has Christopher Walken being, well, Christopher Walken and the fact that the film is actually pretty damn solid and easy to watch a decade down the line. Here’s the original trailer of the ballad of Joe Dirte:

It might also be a good move for Sandler who happens to be throwing all of his Happy Madison productions into Netflix and other digital services. Because the box office sure as hell isn’t a fan of his work anymore, and Netflix might be an easier sell for the former funny-man.

Expect Joe Dirt 2 out in 2015, on the Crackle platform.
