Well it’s official. For a while now, Warner Bros has been playing catch-up with Marvel and their mega movie franchise, provided that Marvel was in fact riding a new Ducati motorcycle and WB was trailing after them with a tricycle that had square wheels. But that’s all about to change. Because the schedule for the owner of DC Comic movies is looking pretty packed right now. Here’s what’s on the way.
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed the upcoming slate, which streches through ten films into 2020:
- “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
- “Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (2016)
- “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot (2017)
- “Justice League Part One,” directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017)
- “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller (2018)
- “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa (2018)
- “Shazam” (2019)
- “Justice League Part Two,” directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
- “Cyborg,” starring Ray Fisher (2020)
- “Green Lantern” (2020)
What’s more, it is now confirmed that Jason Momoa will officially be the badassest Aquaman around and will hopefully bury several decades of terrible fish out of water puns that turned the iconic hero into the laughing stock of the comics industry.
That slate also includes Ezra Miller as the Flash, which will be a film completely seperate to the news series that is airing, starring Grant Gustin as the crimson speedster. Miller has already made a name for himself in films such as We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being A Wallflower, but he’s going to need to do some serious klapping at the local gym to look the part for the film as the fastest man alive.
According to Badass Digest’s Dave Faraci (Who has been spot on so far with these leaks), Batman V Superman will culminate in the entire Justice League coming together at the end of that flick. From there, each character will get their own chance in the spotlight before Justice League arrives, with the new Green Lantern ending the film on a cliffhanger that warns the heroes of the impending Darkseid threat that will be resolved in the Justice League sequel.
It’s a hell of a schedule, make no mistake, and one with very little breathing room. But there’s some potential great stuff here. Suicide Squad could be the DC equivalent of Guardians Of The Galaxy if handled correctly, and it’s about time that Wonder Woman finally got her own damn film. Never mind the fact that Cyborg will see a person of colour headline a superhero film in a big way (Sorry Shaq, Steel doesn’t count).
There’s a lot to take in here, but it’s pretty damn exciting. What do you think? Should Marvel be worried?

I was hoping for Justice League Dark or at least another Constantine movie, but at least the series is starting at the end of the month… I just hope they allow him to smoke 🙁

They’ve sorta dodged the question of him smoking until now. On the one hand, ABC is saying that they have to be responsible about this, and they can’t be seen to be promoting a harmful, addictive habit by having their hero puffing away like a chimney, but they have also recognized that it is an intrinsic part of the character’s look.
So expect him to maybe take a puff here and there, or maybe even to try quitting at some point.

Blade is a Marvel character. The film rights reverted back to Marvel from New Line last year, along with Ghost Rider and the Punisher. I have a feeling we’re going to see at least one of them turning up in the four upcoming Marvel Netflix series. Punisher would certainly be a perfect fit to pop up in Daredevil, while Iron Fist and Blade going toe to toe would be great.

I’m a little disappointed by the separation of tv and movie heroes… its like saying the tv heroes are only good enough for tv so if you want to see the real heroes watch them at the movies… and vice versa i guess… we watch TVs Arrow and Flash, and they have wonderful character development and stories they tell, but then comes the movie versions of these characters arrive which we know, but some details we have to disregard and others not… I feel like dc have missed a real trick here!
Why not make them all the same universe?!
I get that by keeping them separate one can tell stories that don’t rely on other mediums, but at the same time how can we believe the characters when there are many incarnations of the same guy?! How do we believe this universe of Flash/Arrow but when we watch Gotham or the movies, it’s another universe!
Someone like Grant Guston, who so far is doing a steller job as the Flash, is being told his Flash isn’t good enough for the big screen, whereas the brilliant Erza Miller will be hampered knowing his Flash is after someone else’s 4 year (and hopefully counting) product!
Working with the characters like Marvel are doing can get very complicated, but at the same time it is so rewarding! They have TV, film, Netflix and if I’m not mistaken animation (although that is more a spiritual connection and aimed at kids only) pulling in the same direction, working together.
Hopefully all the dc products are great and stand on their own really well, but i can’t help but feel they are shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly…
Watching Smallville back in the day, the real draw card was seeing all the characters become heroes and villains, not just Supermans growth. Smart money would have grown that into a film franchise and universe if done properly! Now we see all these characters in different incarnations, its overwhelming…

Allow me to just copypasta my crackpot theory I posted on Facebook the other day:
What if WB/DC has been fooling us all along?! What if all this time that we’ve been crapping on them for seemingly not knowing what they’re doing by creating all these standalone universes due to separate TV shows and movies, they’ve actually been cleverly laying the groundwork for… wait for it…. CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS!!!!
Man of Steel-verse is Earth 0, Arrow-verse is Earth 1, Smallville-verse is Earth 47 or whatever, etcetra etcetra! And in a couple years’ time, they’re all going to have characters crossover to take on the Anti-Monitor, just like in the classic comic book storyline! AND IT WILL BE GLORIOUS!

If that happened it would be glorious, and they wouldn’t have to do anything to set it up either! Suppose that’s the thing with multiple incarnations of the same character, anything is possible!
Although, looks like the Flash might be setting that up perhaps…
