Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • As somebody who spends a lot of his personal time with his butt in a cinema seat (and with the soles of his feet suspiciously stuck to the ground), I would appreciate it – and I’m sure the rest of the audience would too – if people going to the movies didn’t behave like hyenas on tik. Movie etiquette is what I’m talking about. If you still don’t get it, let this video explain it to you with puppets.

  • Speaking of movie etiquette, if you’re one of the lucky few who join us on Thursday for our special pre-screening of Annabelle (what do you mean you haven’t entered the competition yet?! Go fix that now!), then I hope you’ll respond to the movie with the normal gasps and shocks and not start a crazy riot like this one in France that caused all early screenings of the movie to be cancelled.
  • And the latest entry in the genre of “Holy crap, they’re actually making a movie out of that!”, Warner Bros’ adaptation of insanely popular video game Minecraft, has found itself a director in Shawn Levy. The Night At the Museum 1 & 2 and Real Steel helmer is reportedly in early talks with the studio for the gig, because this is apparently a real thing that is happening for real.
  • Poster of the day: Rubber

“I remember on The Machinist, I came to work one day, and we were shooting in Barcelona, Spain, and our trailers were these little Spanish 2-wheeled cabanas that were parked in front of this actual working machine shop. And I heard ‘Pssst…Michael!’ from behind one of the cabanas.

“And I went over, and it was Chris. And he said, ‘Can you look at this?’ And he turned and dropped his overalls, which he was naked under. And he had lost an INCREDIBLE amount of weight for the character. And he said ‘Michael, there’s something wrong with my ass, can you have a look?’ And the muscles in his ass had literally dropped out of the sockets of his hips. The dignity of the muscles, his ass had literally dropped out of the hips and thigh bones. And I said, ‘Hey Chris, your ass has dropped.’ And he said, ‘What do you mean?’ And I said, ‘You’ve stopped losing body fat, and now you’re actually losing elasticity of muscles’ – I forget the exact medical term for it, but I said, ‘You’ve gone beyond body fat, and now you’re into actual muscle tissue and things are being affected.

“And he turned – I wasn’t sure how he was going to react – and he turned, and said, ‘Cool'”

Cool? COOOOOL?!!!

  • And now, to make ourselves feel better again that piece of nightmare fuel, let’s check out this latest promo for The Walking Dead Drunk!

  • Last we heard about the Ghost In the Shell live-action adaptation, Margot Robbie was being looked at for the lead. But it would seem that talks has fizzled out (possibly due to her suicidal tendencies) and now in an update from Deadline to the story of Robbie’s possible involvement with DC’s Suicide Squad, it’s been revealed that the role of Major Motoko Kusanagi has been offered to Scarlett Johansson instead for a cool $10 million. After the success of Lucy and her fan-favourite turn in the Marvel universe as Black Widow, this actually makes a lot of sense. If she accepts and the movie becomes a hit, then I think it’s safe to say that Johansson has become the new face of female-led ass-kicking action movies.
  • Do you realize that it’s been 15 years since The Matrix came out (and Nick still insists on wearing all leather everything and sunglasses indoors!). So just to remind ourselves of the awesomeness that the Wachowski’s gave us, lets relive the entire Matrix Trilogy in two and a half minutes!

  • Speaking of things that are really old and which you probably can’t remember, a Twin Peaks sequel series is in the works as you may have heard. The new show is set 20 years after the childhood scarring events of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s first series, so what has happened in the intervening two and a half decades? Well, that’s what new novel  “The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks” is looking to address. Penned by Frost himself, the book apparently “reveals what has happened to the people of that iconic fictional town since we last saw them 25 years ago,” and offers “a deeper glimpse into the central mystery that was only touched on by the original series.”

The book is expected to go on sale sometime in 2015, before the new series airs on Showtime.

  • This is the dumbest greatest recap of The Avengers you will hear in your life this week today!

If you have anything you would like to contribute to Extras, whether it be interesting stories, funny videos, or artistic photos of yourself in morally questionable poses, feel free to drop a mail to kervyn@themovies.co.za.
