You think there are a ton of comic book movies on the way? Well wait until TV catches up with even more shows. We’ve already got The Walking Dead,Gotham,The Flash,Arrow and Agents of SHIELD. And we’re taking a trip too Riverdale as well it seems, as the one ginger that people actually dig, Archie Andrews, is getting his own show.

Greg “Arrow” Berlanti has been tapped to help sheperd the Archie show onto TV, which now currently has the original title of “Riverdale”. According to THR, Riverdale will highlight the Archie, Betty and Veronica love triangle, with familiar supporting characters like Reggie Mantle, Jughead Jones and Josie and the Pussycats along for the ride.

The show will unfold as the main trio “explore the surrealistic twists of small-town life, in addition to the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.” I suppose any show starring a ginger person that has two girls pining after him most likely involves some sort of dark horror and secret underneath the surface. Just ask Nick.

Archie Comics Chief Creative Office Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is on board to for scripting duties.  Here’s what he had to say about the project:

“This is something we’ve been working on for awhile now, figuring out the best way to bring these characters to life for what will be, essentially, the first time.  The entire team working on Riverdale is as passionate about Archie as Jon and I are, so it feels like the stars have finally aligned for Archie and the rest of the gang.”

Archie Comics publisher/co-CEO Jon Goldwater also added:

“This is a historic moment for Archie Comics, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with Fox, Warner Bros. and Greg Berlanti to bring our characters to television. Greg and Roberto are experts when it comes to making great, compelling television and bringing beloved comic book creations to life on the screen.  They’re the perfect team to welcome viewers to Riverdale.”

Hopefully, the show will set up a crossover with The Punisher at the rate that TV is adapting various comic book properties.
