Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Happy Halloween, everybody! And to kick off this All Hallow’s Eve version of Extras, let’s get going with something truly bloodcurdling. Darryn is going to sing for us.

I kid, I kid. I never would never put you guys through such horrors, so here’s something much more pleasant: The amazing make-up work that went into turning Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller into Frankestein’s monster every night for Danny Boyle’s stage version of Mary Shelley’s famed novel. The play was performed in 2011, with Miller and Cumberbatch alternating roles between playing Victor van Frankenstein and his famous monster on a nightly basis. The award-winning play is about to be rebroadcast in UK cinemas for the third time – thanks to public demand – hence this behind-the-scenes look being given now.

  • And sticking with undead people from the Victorian era, here’s the first look at the Bennett sisters, complete with bodices and blades, ready to go kick some zombie butt in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) reimagining of the Jane Austen classic, the film is directed by Burr Steers and stars Lily James, Bella Heathcote Ellie Bamber, Millie Brady, Suki Waterhouse, Sam Riley, Jack Huston and Matt Smith.

  • And speaking of jobs (I’m sorry), it looks like Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic – which already has Christian Bale as the late Apple head – might just have found its Steve Wozniak in Seth Rogen. The funnyman hasn’t accepted the role yet as the Apple co-founder, but producers apparently have their sights set on him.

  • Looks like Gal Gadot is going to have to be happy with only one sword and sandal franchise. The Wonder Woman actress, who is set to play the Amazonian superhero in Batman v Superman, two Justice League movies and two solo Wonder Woman movies over the next few years, has had to pull out of Timur Bekmambetov’s Ben Hur remake due to her commitments to Warner Bros’ superhero film franchise. Gadot was originally pegged to play the female lead, a slave named Esther that serves as the love interest for Jack Huston’s Ben-Hur.
  • Speaking of people starring in superhero movies, LL Cool J has apparently landed some role in a Marvel movie. Just what role and what movie is a total mystery as that was all the rapper turned actor tweeted out yesterday.

The most obvious pick would be Luke Cage, but that hero is going to be in a Netflix series not movie, and the actor expressly pointed out in a followup tweet that this will be a movie. Any wild guesses?

  • This remote controlled R2-D2 carved pumpkin officially wins Halloween!

  • And you thought Michael Bay could only blow up robots and destroy your childhood? The Master of Bayhem has signed on to direct an 13 Hours, adaptation of Mitchell Zuckoff’s non-fiction political drama book about a 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. State Department Special Mission Compound in Benghazi, Libya. Chuck Hogan (The Town) is set to pen the screenplay.

Here’s the official blurb for the book:

“13 Hours” presents, for the first time ever, the true account of the events of September 11, 2012, when terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya. A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there. Those men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now-infamous attack.

  • I’ve spent the last week and a half walking around telling random people in the most intimidating voice that I can muster that “there are no strings on me” (Pro-tip: Not a great pickup line). This is of course due o the final line spoken by a creepy robot James Spader in the incredible trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Apparently though, there was a much better way that Marvel could have ended that trailer.
