Good grief! New images for THE PEANUTS MOVIE are delightfully sweet

It’s quite easy for an adaptation of an existing property to forget what made its source material so popular. Which would explain Man Of Steel I guess. With a new Peanuts movie on the way, kids are going to be introduced to Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the gang for the first time. Charles Schulz may be gone, but his daily strips about the lives of the Peanuts gang is still relevant to this day. Especially when it includes a healthy dose of optimism.

There’s still a tear to go before Peanuts arrives in cinemas, but I like what I’m seeing so far. There’s a classic adherence to 2D animation here, but with enough of a tweak to make it 2.5D. Seriously, check out Snoopy’s fur texture and the patterns in Charlie Brown’s clothing. That’s a subtle work of art:

Peanuts (1)

Peanuts (2)

Peanuts (3)

Peanuts (4)

Peanuts (5)

Peanuts (6)

Peanuts (7)

According to USA Today, “The story follows the little round-headed boy with the indomitable optimism on a quest to get something he’s sure he needs, even though he discovers he’s pretty OK just as he is.”  That’s rather sweet. I like it, as producer Paul Feig and director Steve Martino are relying on “the timeless quality of the 50-plus years of the beloved comic strips and TV specials,” for the film. Which means no Snoopy dubstep hopefully. But we will get a glimpse into the mind of that canine.

“We really get to go into his mind and see what this crazy dog is imagining every day of his life,” said producer and writer Craig Schulz. Man, I’m kind of excited for this film now. Just so long as it doesn’t pull a Lucy and pull the football away from me before I kick it.
