I’m not a fan of gratuitous violence and sex in movies and TV series. Sure, my reptilian brain gets all excited over a splash of crimson or a flash of some naughty bits, but in the end my reasonable side realizes the immaturity of it all. Except when it comes to Banshee.

For two seasons Cinemax’s breakout drama has thrown a mountain of boobs, bullets and broken bones on screen and I have loved every second of it, because underneath all that excess lies the pretty cool story of Lucas Hood (Antony Star) the most badass lawman on TV bar none. The fact that this lawman is actually just a crook hiding out next to a small Amish community, while still pulling jobs on the side, is just gravy.

Led by Hood and his ex-squeeze turned soccer mom turned crime partner Carrie (Ivana Milicevic), the show has introduced us to a number of very memorable characters (Job FTW!), and can also boast what is in my opinion the greatest, most brutal fist fight ever filmed for TV. And with that kind of heritage, you have to wonder how it’s possible that co-creators/showrunners Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler can even hope to top themselves in the next season.

Well, based on this first trailer for season 3, they’re damn well going to try, starting with one extremely intimidating Native American by the name of Chayton Littlestone (Geno Segers) – whose voice alone will have calling for your mommy – making his return. If that’s not enough, there’s also lots of interpersonal drama, some political in-fighting and unassumingly vicious Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen) apparently going full, topless badass.

Along with the trailer, Yahoo also has these two exclusive pics of Antony Starr and Geno Segers, who look to turn their rivalry up several notches.

Banshee‘s also stars Hoon Lee, Frankie Faison, Rus Blackwell, Matt Servitto, Triest Kelly Dunn and Ryann Shane. Season 3’s 10-episode run will be kicking off on the US cable network on January 9, 2015.

I need to catch up on this, only watched the pilot but it looked really good.
