Mark Hamill Tricks his way back into The Flash

One of my favourite shows at the moment has got to be the CW series The Flash, and not just because I am still recovering from last week’s brilliant crossover with The Arrow! The new show has already cast the 90’s Flash as Grant Gustin’s father (John Wesley Shipp) and now plans to add a possibly pumped up Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame to their cast as the Trickster. I say possibly pumped up as recent pictures of Hamill indicate he may be hitting the gym for Star Wars: The  Force Awakens as hard as he may be hitting some Dark Force foes with his lightsaber.

In the short-lived 1990’s Flash series Hamill played James Jesse whose alter-ego The Trickster terrorized Iron Heights with, among other things, exploding teddy bears. Why not? According to Hitfix we can expect a slightly different incarnation of the character this time round:

“Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90’s ‘Flash‘ series.  In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist  con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original ‘Flash‘ on the CBS version.”
Executive producer of the current show Andrew Kreisberg added:
“Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash.  Christmas andCHanukkah came early for us this year when he said yes!  We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”
Hamill will join the team for episode 17 which will air sometime in 2015. So far the show is doing remarkably well, better than I expected to be sure, and seems to be growing in strength with each passing episode. All I can say is I hope The Trickster’s wardrobe takes on a more ‘modern’ look than his luminous kit of the 90’s!
