Despite the severely diminished male, Adidas tracksuit-wearing population of Eastern Europe, it appears that people still haven’t learned: You need to leave Liam Neeson the hell alone. And you definitely shouldn’t take his stuff (ex-wife, daughter, dignity, pet parakeet, his grandma’s bolognese recipe, etc.). But alas, the average bad guy just doesn’t know how to take a hint, which means Neeson needs to remind them of his particular set of skills again. Skills that are very Christmas-y, in fact, going by this latest trailer for Taken 3 which plays on the “12 Days of Christmas” theme to hilariously fun effect.

I felt that Taken 2 was a stale, cash-in sequel that lacked all the unflinching intensity of the first film. And although this supposed final film in the series (they do say that this is the end) is once again PG-13 and is also helmed by Olivier Megaton, if they can capture the punchy, skull-cracking energy of this trailer, then Neeson may just go out on a high note after all.

Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered.  Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.

Taken 3 also stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Forest Whitaker, Maggie Grace, Leland Orser and Sam Spruell. It hits US screens on January 9, 2015. It opens locally on normal screens and IMAX on January 16, 2015.

I just realised something. If you replace “Liam Neeson” with “Steven Seagal” in the synopsis you’ve described half of his 90’s action movies.

You hold your tongue… Liam is half the man Steven is – both literally and figuratively! 😉
