I can tell you from personal experience that getting stuck in a bad time-share deal will leave you with homicidal tendencies. Clearly, one of the folks in upcoming thriller The Loft felt the same way, but actually did something about it. Starring Karl Urban (DreddStar Trek), James Marsden (X-Men, Superman Returns), Wentworth Miller (Prison Break, The Flash), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) and  Matthias Schoenaerts (BullheadRust and Bone), the American-Belgian produced thriller follows these five guys who agree to sort of time-share a penthouse suite, which they can use for their private vices, but…….Wait a minute. This seems eerily familiar.

Oh, right! That’s because the first trailer for this flick came out more than two years ago already! Since that time several undisclosed delays has kept the movie on the shelf, but now it’s finally ready to be released. In 2015, We hope. Maybe. The trailer certainly seems to show a movie that could go either way. These kinds of self-contained, high-concept thrillers can either turn out brilliant or crumble under their own weight as they try to be too clever. The jury is still out on which way this one will go, but with a cast as solid as this, I’ll be cautiously optimistic for now.

Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness) and James Marsden (2 Guns) star in the tense psychological thriller THE LOFT, the story of five married guys who conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city–a place where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Paranoia seizes them as everyone begins to suspect one another. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller.

The Loft also stars Rhona Mitra and Isabel Lucas, and was directed by Erik von Looy, who also directed the highly acclaimed original Belgian movie which this version is based on. The film is scheduled for limited release on January 23, 2015.
