When it comes to Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, I’m 50/50 on their movies. But it looks like those two halves might just have added up to a whole… lot of fun. And now that that horrible joke about fractions is out of the way, I can actually start talking about Get Hard, the upcoming comedy from the two comedians that actually looks to be rather funny.
That may just be as a result of more than Ferrell and Hart’s goofy charms, but also due to Etan Cohen who is making his feature film directorial debut here. Cohen of course had a very successful career as a screenwriter before this, most famously penning the utterly hilarious Tropic Thunder. Cohen also co-wrote this script – which is based on a story by Adam “Anchorman” McKay – along with Jay Martel and Ian Roberts (not that Ian Roberts) who cut their comedic teeth on the very funny Key & Peele show. So yeah, that’s a lot of comedic talent behind this and it shows in this new red-band trailer, which boasts such nuggets as what to do when life hands you d!cks.
When millionaire hedge fund manager James King (Will Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and bound for a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order. Desperate, he turns to Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars. But despite James’ one-percenter assumptions, Darnell is a hard-working small business owner who has never received a parking ticket, let alone been to prison.
Together, the two men do whatever it takes for James to “get hard” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other.
Get Hard also stars Tip “T.I.” Harris, Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson. It will be checking into the big house on March 27, 2015.
