I wasn’t too big a fan of Divergent. Sure it boasted a solid performance from star Shailene Woodley and slick production values, but it also stuck to so many YA cliches. Not to mention that it’s central premise was so full of gaping holes that it could easily be mistaken for a road in Gauteng. And lets not even get started on the fighting style that looks like somebody was trying to weaponize the chicken dance. There’s a fairly good chance that none of these things will get fixed in the film’s upcoming sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgence*, but I must say I was intrigued based on the teaser trailers we’ve seen for the film thus far.

Now we’ve got another, and once again nothing plot-wise is really revealed as we seem to back in some sort of dreamscape that Woodley’s Tris needs to escape from. And apparently to do that, Tris needs to do some heavy borrowing from the Matrix franchise, right down to Neo’s catch phrase. Unoriginality aside though, we do have the bonus of getting to see Kate Winslet get spear tackled out of an exploding building though. Take that, Rose! There was place for both you and Jack on that piece of wood if you had just scooched over a bit!

“The Divergent Series: Insurgent” raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent also stars Theo James, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller and Ray Stevenson. The film is scheduled for release on March 20, 2015.

*Am I the only one finding it insulting that studios think we can’t keep track of a movie’s sequel unless the sequel’s title also contains the original movie’s title?
