Brandon Routh suits up in this first look at ARROW's Atom

The first time anyone had heard of Brandon Routh really, was in 2006’s Superman Returns. Now while he made a great Superman and an even better Clark Kent, that film didn’t exactly give him much material to work with, and will most likely be one of DC’s more forgettable flicks. But lately, Routh has found his stride in other projects and on Arrow.

As the genius scientist Ray Palmer, he’s an eccentric and fun addition to the cast, that helps give an otherwise gritty show some much needed levity at the right time. He’s also going to most likely get his own spin-off show, because with another size-changing hero on the horizon, the time is right for the Atom to finally make his small screen debut. And he’ll dress the part of course. The CW just released their first official image of Routh in costume. Here it is:

I kinda dig that costume. It looks like a science suit, and I don’t even mind what Kervyn describes as the “Rollerball” helmet. I think it looks damn good, and way better than what we’re used to seeing on television so far. It also looks a helluva lot better than the usual Atom costume seen in comics:

What do you think? Would you watch the weekly adventures of Ray Palmer?

  1. Okay, that looks really good.

I think there’s enough of these shows, especially with the upcoming ones. Maybe as short series, similar to the British model – that I’d like. But full length 20+ episode series, nah.

Exactly, or even something like Ascension. Keep the flagship shows, they can introduce characters as they see fit, if people really like them, give them short event series. It’s pretty low risk for them I think & I’d watch the hell out of those.

Agreed. I think we stand a chance of being over-saturated if we carry on this way!

So is the hope to eventually spin off into another weekly DC series? I feel as if Routh is big billing for a weekly show.

Well they’ve already said there will be a new DC series, Atom looks like the perfect candidate. I’d watch it 🙂

“My name is Ray Palmer, and I’m the smallest person alive…”

Terrible tagline aside he’s a great addition to the arrowverse and I look forward to his creation in arrow and the development of his own series.

    Wait….Is that…..Commander Shepard?!?!

The suit reminds me of the armor of Mass Effect, now i like it, will watch if he has his own show.
