Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • So how about that Spider-Man news, hey?! While Marvel finally striking a deal with Sony to bring the Wall Crawler into their universe is incredibly good news, there is a slight downside: Scheduling. With the new Marvel produced solo Spider-Man film being added to the lineup in 2017, it means nearly everything else is being pushed back slightly. The new Spidey movie will now take the place of Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017, while the third Thor flick will be bumped back to November 3, 2017. The previous occupant of that slot, Black Panther will now take Captain Marvel‘s spot on July 6, 2018, while Captain Marvel – which may just be directed by Angelina Jolie – will move to November 2, 2018, which was vacated by Inhumans, which will now see a release on July 12, 2019.

Interestingly enough, The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 & 2 will not be moving their respective 2018 and 2019 release dates, meaning that Inhumans will actually take place after those movies. That would suggest that the titular group of powered characters won’t play any part in Marvel’s mega-crossover.

  • And if that bit of scheduling news brought you down, then this is going to push straight underground. On Sunday night, completely out of the blue, US cable network FXX aired a mysterious pilot episode for a show called Winter Dragon. What some eagle-eyed viewers soon spotted was that this was actually an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series “Wheel of Time”. Unfortunately, for those same viewers, the pilot episode was also all kinds of horrible. And now, not only can you go and read the very interesting write-up on how this even happened and exactly why it was so bad (spoiler alert: this was hastily thrown together just so that the producers can prevent their rights from lapsing this Wednesday), but you can experience all the horror for yourself below!

  • Today saw the release of the most recent poster for horror/thriller Awaiting, a movie that Nick really enjoyed! This time we managed to get our quote featured, one taken from our review of the movie! We’ll let you know when release dates have been finalised. Awaiting will premier at the fantasporto 2015 festival and features a rather mangled Rupert Hill (seen in the poster below) and a crazy Tony Curran as Morris, a father with a few daddy issues…

  • Speaking of crazy villains with big heads, THR is reporting out the Berlin Film Festival that Lionsgate have picked up the distribution rights for the Mel Gibson directed Hacksaw RidgeAfter Gibson’s inflammatory rants and legal troubles, the actor had almost become a pariah in Hollywood, but it looks like the major studios are getting back in business with him again as the film was apparently a big draw at the festival. Hacksaw Ridge, which sees Gibson helming a film for the first time since 2006’s Apocalypto, is a WWII drama starring Andrew Garfield as “real-life war hero Pfc. Desmond T. Doss, who became the first conscientious objector in American military history to receive the Medal of Honor even though he refused to bear arms on religious grounds.”
  • Damn it, Bryan Singer! Why are you teasing us like this? What’s behind the door? Is it the new Danger Room?! Wolverine’s secret stash of Jean Grey blow-up dolls? WHAT, MAN!!

I know. Old door. But there’ll be something new behind it. #XmenApocalypse

  • It would appear that Elijah Wood hasn’t yet got the memo about Nicolas Cage being career kryptonite at this stage. The Lord of the Rings actor will apparently be teaming up with the Lord of War actor for upcoming crime drama The Trust. The film will see the duo as “two crooked cops, David Waters (Wood) and Jim Stone (Cage), who discover a hidden safe while working in the evidence unit of the police department. The duo’s desire for the possessions of the safe throws them into a deadly well of corruption leaving them fighting for their lives and questioning their every move.”

Ten bucks says Cage will talk about tapping into the dark side of his character and then do a Gollum impersonation the whole time.

  • One of the things about Jupiter Ascending that annoyed me a bit, was how much extraneous details were added onto characters for no apparent reason. For example, how Channing Tatum’s character is revealed to have had wings and have been part of some flying army, only for that revelation to not factor into the story one freaking bit. Except, there may have been a lot more to it, going by these newly released pieces of concept art which suggest that one stage we were supposed to see more of this army – including one member that was clearly modelled on The Rock – before that storyline obviously got axed.

Man, the Mission: Impossible 5 crew will not be happy with this!

  • We’ve seen that with the new Jurassic World trailer, director Colin Treverrow and co have been hard at work fine tuning the film’s visuals. But what if, instead of tweaking the CGI, they had just been tweaking? What would a drug-fueled version of that trailer look like? I’m guessing something like this utterly hilarious oddity.
