It’s almost time for the big one! The 87th Annual Hollywood Circle Jerk Academy Awards are on this Sunday (22 February) and there are lots of strong movies up for awards this year. Check here if you need a reminder of who’s nominated. Seeing as no one really cares about the majority of the technical categories, here are my predictions for the main awards:
Although Birdman has 9 nominations in total, I don’t think it will have a clean sweep. It is a strong contender for Best Picture, but that’s probably going to go to either Boyhood (because of the sheer amount of time and effort that went into it), The Grand Budapest Hotel (because it’s a Wes Anderson film) or American Sniper (because it’s a Clint Eastwood film). And these go ditto the nominations for Best Director.
For Best Actor I’d like to see Michael Keaton take home an Oscar for Birdman, which was possibly the most perfectly cast roles I’ve ever seen. Best Actress is up in the air for me, but based on the hype I’d guess Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl, although Julianne Moore might take it for Still Alice.
Sadly, Best Animated Film will probably go to How to Train Your Dragon 2, which was a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t really blow me away. I’m just hoping that Everything Is Awesome from The Lego Movie gets a win for Best Original Song, so that The Lonely Island can be Oscar winners and wouldn’t that just be really freaking weird?
So there are my haphazard predictions, now over to you. Who do you think will be taking home the gold this Sunday?

For Best Actor I’m really torn between Bradley Cooper and Michael Keaton… I literally cannot decide between the 2. Although Benedict Cumberbatch also deserves a mention.
For Best Actress I’d give it to Rosamund Pike, hands down (but she probably won’t get it because the Academy is anything but a follower of popular opinion/hype).
Best Picture? Hmm… That’s a tough one. Some great nominations (and I personally loved The Grand Budapest Hotel because of how wacky and unexpected it was). But if I were pushed to choose one, I’d say American Sniper.

Best Picture: I want it to go to Imitation Game, but it will probably be Boyhood
Best Director: Alejandro Gonzales Innarittu (Birdman)
Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne (Theory of Everything). Hands down.
Best Actress: It’s going to be a toss-up between Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice)
Best Supporting Actor: JK Simmons (Whiplash)
Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
If Dawn of the Planet of the Apes doesn’t win for Visual Effects, I’m breaking out the torches and pitchforks.
