Midweek Movie Mouth-Off: what did you think of the Academy Awards?

Well, don’t ever trust me to predict who is going to win an Oscar! To be fair, half of my predictions were who I would like to see win (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!). At least you know, once again, that you can trust Kervyn’s opinions, seeing as his predictions were (pretty much) spot on.

So Birdman had a good run after all, netting Best Picture, Best Director (Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu), Best Original Screenplay (Inarritu and his co-writers) and Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). Sadly, Michael Keaton missed out on his win, with Best Actor going to Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything, but at least I called it on Best Actress, with the Academy finally recognising six-time nominee Julianne Moore for Still Alice.

Sadly, we don’t get to say that The Lonely Island are Oscar winners, as Selma’s “Glory” took the award for Best Original Song instead of “Everything is Awesome”. But, thankfully, How to Train Your Dragon 2 didn’t win for Best Animated feature, instead it went to Big Hero Six, which was just fantastic in my opinion and totally deserved.

All in all there were very few surprises, with most awards going to the favourites of the categories. Well, not my favourites, but everyone else’s. What do you think of the winners? Were they all deserved, or do you think they could have made better choices?
