If I learned anything from Steven Spielberg’s Jaws it’s that you should never trust the beach holiday advice of a small town mayor, and you can never have a big enough boat. Also, self-contained thrillers where our heroes set out to hunt a vicious killer animal but end up being hunted themselves makes for some gripping viewing. Whether that’s the case for Grizzly (formerly titled Red Machine), which sees the titular killer bear going claw to dismembered toe with a pair of brothers played by Thomas Jane and James Marsden, is still up for question.

And yes, you read that correctly, the Punisher and Cyclops are indeed teaming up to face down Yogi’s not so friendly cousin. And based on this trailer for the film, it looks like they’re still in for one hell of a bad time. And unfortunately the same may just be said of us viewers, as the really poorly edited trailers show us ninja bears, lacklustre direction, poor editing and some really cheap looking CGI. Not even the inclusion of a bad Santa aka Billy Bob Thornton appears to help matters much. Hopefully most of those problems are just because of a poorly put together trailer, because I don’t think I could bear to sit through an entire movie like this.

In the action thriller Grizzly, a deputy (Thomas Jane) whose mission is protecting the threatened grizzly bear suddenly finds himself conflicted when a massive rogue grizzly wreaks havoc on a local Alaskan community. Enlisting the help of his estranged brother (James Marsden), he enters the labyrinthian Grizzly Maze to track down his wife (Piper Perabo), who’s gone missing, before the bear does. As the body count mounts and an infamous bear hunter (Billy Bob Thornton) enters the fray determined to take down the bear he’s been waiting for his whole life, no one is safe in the harsh Alaskan wilds.

Grizzly was directed by David Hackl (Saw V) and also stars Piper Perabo and Scott Glenn. There’s no release date set yet.
