Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • Many movies are scary due to terrifying clowns, spring-loaded cats or creepy ghost children, all pretty unrealistic things really. And then you get Roar. The 1981 cult classic is arguably the most terrifying movie of all time, and all because the horror was very, very real. For 11 years, while making the film, married stars Tippi Hedren and Noel Marshall and their family – which included their daughter, a young Melanie Griffith – flirted with death every day in making a move the likes of which the world had never seen before, and probably never will again. To summarize the insanity of the film’s production just won’t do it justice, so I implore you to read this write-up from Tim League, head of the Alamo Drafthouse, who have just unearthed this little-seen piece of cinematic history and are currently busy screening it in limited theatres. AND I MUST SEE IT!

  • Looks like Homeland has found a new, well, homeland. In the future. The critically acclaimed CIA drama had spent the last season shooting right here in Cape Town as the Mother City doubled for Pakistan. But for the show’s upcoming fifth season, the production will not just be moving shop to Europe, but the storyline has also been revealed to be skipping ahead 2.5 years.
  • Poster of the day: X-Men

  • Avengers star Chris Hemsworth hosted this weekend past’s episode of SNL, and took the opportunity to celebrate kicking Ultron’s ro-butt.

  • It seems that every week I get the opportunity to type out sentences that I never ever thought I would. This week’s entrant: The Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody, has been tapped to rewrite the script for Sony’s upcoming feature film Barbie adaptation. Yes, that Barbie. Cody is known for her great female characters and quirky and creative sensibilities, and according to producer Walter Parkes, that’s exactly what makes her such a great fit for the movie.

“Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs. It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”

  • The guys from HISHE are back with a new edition of Super Cafe, and this time Superman and Batman are not too happy about all the superhero movie bashing that’s been going around lately. Oh, and reboots.

I’M BATMAN!
