Syfy's 12 MONKEYS renewed for a second season

Syfy’s TV series adaption of 12 Monkeys was something people were quite dubious about, particularly as it deviated substantially from the movie it’s based on. Dubious about until they watched it that is. Turns out it’s actually really good, so good in fact that Syfy’s just renewed it for a second season while it’s still currently in the latter stages of it’s 13-episode first season.

As per Coming Soon the show has reached 15 million viewers thus far and is providing the network with record L3 numbers (essentially how many people watch the episode live or within three days of the episode airing live) that are increasing as the show progresses.

As Syfy President Dave Howe said:

We are absolutely committed to 12 Monkeys, and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned. The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for.

…said while ignoring the smart,exciting Sharknado tearing through the room only to be eaten by an acrobatic zombie baby from Z Nation. Okay, I’ll admit that was a bit mean.

With current show runner Natalie Chaidez moving on to a new show for the network titled Hunters, based on the book ‘Alien Hunter’ by Whitley Strieber, co-executive producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett will take over show running duties.

NBC Universal Cable Entertainment President and Chief Content Officer (and mouthful of a title) Jeff Wachtel is rightly proud of the show, saying:

12 Monkeys is a show that has exceeded expectations at every stage. It’s had a great first season creatively, and is building a dedicated audience. We can’t wait to see where – and when! – Terry and Travis will take us next.

If they somehow make Cole Cassandra’s son I’m going to be very upset.

The second season will air in 2016, and with the first season ending its run on 10 April it’s going to be a long wait. Unless Cole can use time travel shenanigans to figure out a way to bring me back some DVDs.
