When it comes to horror movies, I generally find them about as traumatizing as eating a lightly buttered scone. Horror video games on the other hand have the uncanny/nasty ability to worm their way into my skull in the most violent fashion and then turn my brain and nervous system into quivering mush. As such, I’ve never played “Five Nights at Freddy’s”, creator Scott Crawton’s popular video game that has become infamous for how terrifying it is.

Luckily for me and my wounded pride, I’ll get to experience it in a more palatable format as THR reports that Warner Bros are now developing a live-action adaptation of the game. The original saw players as a security guard who has to survive fight night shifts at “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night”.

The new movie is being produced by author/screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Pride Prejudice and Zombies) and producer David Katzenberg (Stephen King’s IT, Beetlejuice 2), who said that they are “looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie”. Adorable… riiiiiiight.

The movie currently doesn’t have any writers or directors attached to it yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Grahame-Smith picking up the pen for this one. The existing mythology behind easily leaves room for a feature film, as the three chapters of the game released thus far have not only jumped around chronologically (the 2nd chapter is a prequel and the 3rd chapter takes place 30 years after the original), but have never fully explained just why this pizza place is inhabited by homicidal demonic toys.

And to give you guys a taste of said homicidal demonic toys, here’s an official trailer for the video game, followed by a more honest trailer for the video game.

  1. Usually I don’t like these sort of things, but FNAF could work though (but hey, we know how licensed movies turn out) as a movie especially after watching Game Theory’s video about the lore.
