Hey kids, do you like violence? Do you like watching old men shove things through baddie eyelids? The leading ‘old’ wolf’ character is certainly Liam Neeson in Taken, but Keanu Reeves has a place at the table with John Wick and Denzel Washington also staked out his ground with The Equalizer. Despite a wobbly script and so-so reviews, the film went on to double on its budget in the U.S and crack nearly $200 million worldwide. With this and its strong performance in the DVD and VOD world, Sony wants another one:

Based on the 1980s TV series, “The Equalizer” earned over $192 million at the global box office last year. It was co-financed by Village Roadshow and debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.

Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) directed the first “Equalizer.” It’s unknown whether he’ll return for the sequel. He and Washington are next re-teaming on MGM’s remake of “Magnificent Seven,” which reunites the duo with “Training Day” actor Ethan Hawke.

Well, I am happy because I like Denzel Washington and I think he’s a great action star. He’s also one of few actors who can lecture the cast and audience – and make you feel like you deserve it. Given how well the Taken series has been doing – and a general lack of other serious contenders in the ‘old wolf’ genre (by all means, avoid watching the awful We Still Kill The Old Way) – a second Equalizer was a given. In fact, I won’t be surprised if we soon see news of a fourth Taken also appearing.
