Because watching Kermit the frog drink himself into a coma after realising that he married Miss Piggy makes for great viewing! The last time the Muppets were on TV, it was way back in Muppets Tonight. Fast forward a few years, and Jim Henson’s puppets are popular again thanks to a smash hit movie and an OK sequel.
According to EW, the new Muppets TV series will be going in a different direction to previous TV series. Instead of just seeing a song and dance routine with guest stars, the new series will go behind the scenes and explore what goes into making a Muppet weekly show when your staff consists of a high-strung frog, diva pig and the worst comedian to ever exist, Fozzie F***ing Bear.
In other words, expect something that is similar to 30 Rock and The Office then. According to the report, the show will also follow the personal lives of the Muppets. ABC’s official new logline reads:
“The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that—for the first time ever—will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”
Hey, as long as Bobo the Bear returns, I’ll be happy.
