We live in a society where the moment anything even remotely remarkable happens (usually involving somebody falling down the most dramatic fashion), everybody whips out a mobile phone to record it. And thanks to the quality of cameras on newer phones, we can now watch people fall down in 4K Ultra HD!

So with that in mind, it’s pretty amazing that it has taken this long for somebody to make an entire movie on their phone, but that day has finally come with Tangerine. The film debuted at Sundance last year and was a gigantic success, and now it’s finally getting a wide release, with this NSFW Red Band trailer (for a whole lot of swearing) being revealed accordingly.

According to director Sean Baker, mobile phones were used not just to keep filmmaking equipment costs down, but also as a means to bypass the permit requirements usually put in place for actual film cinematography. Also, the hipsters will probably love it (You can read more about how the film was actually shot over here).

And just being shot on iPhones isn’t Tangerine‘s only remarkable factor though, as newcomer leads Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and  actually play a pair of transgender prostitutes which is not exactly the type of characters you would find in your normal Hollywood story.

Check out the trailer below, which of course looks admittedly low-budget but according to the many positive reviews for the film just add to the film’s charm.

It’s Christmas Eve in Hollywood, and working girl Sin-Dee (Rodriguez) is back on the street after a month in jail. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone) hasn’t been faithful during her lockup, she and best friend Alexandra (Taylor) set out to find him and figure out what happened. Their journey leads them through myriad L.A. subcultures, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity

Tangerine will be getting a limited release on July 10, 2015.
