Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

  • This Ryan Reynolds guy. He sure knows how to hype a movie on social media. Over the weekend he posted that hilarious Mother’s Day pic of himself in costume as Deadpool. But if  jokes are not your thing, then how about some crazy cool action courtesy of Deadpool flying through the air in a hail of bullets?!

Stuck the landing. With my mouth.

  • The truth is out there. We don’t exactly know where out there, but at least now we know when, as Fox has announced that the new X-Files show will premiere on Sunday, January 24, 2016, and then have a follow-up episode on the Monday night, before settling into a Monday night routine for the remainder of its 6-episode stretch.

50-shades-of-black “Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”

  • Seeing as how Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is about to get into a fist fight with planet Earth, I guess he needs to set his sights a bit higher for his next movie. A lot higher. Like outer space. The Rock has signed on to star in sci-fi flick Alpha Squad Seven which sounds like a bad 80’s anime, but is actually being described as “a four-quadrant action-comedy adventure set in space” with “Independence Day, Armageddon and Guardians of the Galaxy” all being thrown around as comparisons. Script details are being kept under wraps, but Dreamworks is poising it as a franchise starter.
  • Just because the Taken franchise is now done (It is done, right? Dear gods, let it be done!) doesn’t mean that Liam Neeson will stop Liam Neesoning. The 62-year old action hero has signed on to star in A Willing Patriot, whose boiler plate plot will see him as “a CIA agent who tries to outsmart and capture a terrorist who is planning an attack.” Par for the course, I guess.
  • I have no idea what Matthew Vaughn has in store for the new Flash Gordon movie, but he could sure as hell do a lot worse than using this incredible retro fan-made animated short film from Disney animator Robb Pratt (Pocahontas, Tarzan) for reference.

  • Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are currently hot in demand after the breakout success of John Wick. Charlize Theron is currently receiving nothing but reviews for scene-stealing turn as a one-armed badass in Mad Max: Fury Road. So of course they’re now all going to team up. Theron is set to star in The Coldest City, which Stahelski and Leitch will be directing off a script from Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of An Empire, Act of Valor). The Coldest City is based on a Oni Press graphic novel, and will see Theron as “a super spy who springs into action after an underground MI6 officer is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. She must find a list he was smuggling into the West to protect herself and the counter intelligence community. It becomes a game of double-crossing as agents play out global agendas.”
  • After his insanely cool performance as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, you would think that Paul Bettany couldn’t get more awesome. But thanks to one homophobic social media troll, we now know that Bettany’s awesomeness just has no bounds. (Warning: Foul Language)

  • Ladies and gentlemen! Forget Fred Astaire dancing in the rain. Forget Kevin Bacon losing his feet. Forget that one dude doing the robot in that one Step Up movie that everybody knows is the best thing in the entire franchise. No, the greatest dance scene in a movie of all time was clearly Jean Claude Van Damme’s little booty-shaking, split-jumping shuffle in Kickboxer. AND HE’S DONE IT AGAIN!
