Extras-750-final

Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

“I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with with you what they are — or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it.”

“It’s very simple for me. I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it exciting? Sure. Is it the possibility of going, ‘Hey you can get on a train and it can be a franchise and you could do 3, 4, 5, and have a great time as some kind of superhero or anti-hero.’ But I would also look at something like that and say, ‘Hey, in success that means you are on the train for a while.’ Contractually, you’re going to return to the character over and over. It’s something I asked myself is it something I’d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again? Going and doing the press tour with that group of people again? I always ask myself those questions again. It starts with the story and character.”

Hmmm… What could they have been? McConaughey as Doctor Strange perhaps? Or hell, a bald McConaughey as Lex Luthor? I’d pay money to see that.

  • You know who’s really good at blowing sh!t up? Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he would like to teach you how.

  • Poster of the Day: Godzilla

  • The Flash has been the *cough* runaway TV hit of the season, and nobody is apparently more appreciative of than its star Grant Gustin. The ex-Glee actor took to Facebook over the weekend and what started out as hype for this week’s season finale, turned into an epic, heartfelt thank you to the fans, cast, crew and everybody that made this show possible. Aw, good guy Grant Gustin.
  • War! Ha! What is it good for?! Apparently the title of the new Planet of the Apes. It’s been previously rumoured – and fits in perfectly with the narrative – but now Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the next movie will be titled War of the Planet of the Apes.
  • Oh those sneaky PIxar guys! Always hiding Easter eggs in their movies!

  • I don’t care if Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s Independence Day 2 doesn’t live up to the beloved original, the fact that they have this Jeff Goldblum shrine in their production offices already makes this movie a winner in my book.

  • It’s taken twelve years, but Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson are finally reteaming for threequel Shangai Dawn. With Shangai Noon and Shangai Nights both being decent earners (though the second film was not as successful as the first), there has been talk of a third collaboration for years, but now it’s finally official. There’s no word on story or directors as of yet, but one noticeable fact is that franchise writing duo Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (who you may actually recognize as the creators of Smallville) don’t seem to be scripting this third entry like they did the previous two, as MGM are apparently searching for new writers.
  • We’ve all seen those Honest Trailers that the guys at Screenjunkies do, and we probably ended up laughing our butts off at them. But we’re not the guys who made those movies. Zack Stentz, co-writer of Thor is, but he agreed to watch Honest Trailer for that movie anyway.

  • Gary Whitta’s original screenplay draft for Duncan Jones’ Warcraft movie may have contained the greatest cameo in a video game adaptation of all time.

  • Look, I know I’m not supposed to shoot down my own work, but this Avengers: Age of Ultron review from satire site The Onion is just the best!
