The first trailer for the brilliant award-winning True Detective‘s second season was all about establishing a tone, setting the mood. And it did a brilliant job at that. Call me old-fashioned though, but I felt it was lacking in one area: Words. That’s where this new trailer comes in, as we actually get some of that vaunted dialogue from writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto this time around as each of the anthology series’ four new lead introduce themselves.

We get to see Vince Vaughn doing his bad guy thing, Rachel McAdams is an unexpected badass with a knife, and Taylor Kitsch seems to be putting in his best work since Friday Night Lights. Oh and there’s also Collin Farrell’s glorious porno moustache. And it all looks great.

A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.

Along with that trailer there are also four new character posters for each of the main actors.

True Detective season two also stars Kelly Reilly, Afemo Omilami, Lolita Davidovich, Abigail Spencer, Levin Rambin, James Frain and Michael Wyatt. And while season one’s Cary Fukunaga will not be returning to the director’s chair, this season has lined a series of major directors, with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious franchise) kicking off proceeding by helming the first two episodes. It is believed that legendary director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) will also be helming some of the later episodes, but we can witness Lin’s contributions when the show premieres on June 21, 2015.
