If I had one complaint for Furious 7 it would be the limited screen time of Dwayne Johnson’s badass Luke Hobbs (using your spine as airbag after falling out of a building will do that to you). The musclebound ex-wrestler turned actor was a like a shot of adrenaline to the franchise when he joined it in Fast Five and has been electric on screen every sweaty moment since, so when he only got two major scenes (and they were both pretty damn good ‘uns) in the recent billion-dollar grossing installment it left some fans wanting.

However, there’s a chance that future may hold more Hobbs than we ever dreamed of. During a press conference for the upcoming disaster flick San Andreas (via Collider), in which Johnson stars with Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario, he firstly confirmed that he will be back for Fast & Furious 8 (natch.

Q:  They announced Furious 8. Is Hobbs going to be in it?

DWAYNE JOHNSON: Of course. It can’t go on without Hobbs.

What’s more though, Johnson went on to confirm that he’s spoken to producers about the possibility of a Hobbs solo film.

JOHNSON: We all are interested in it. I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see. I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what  the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.

I’m a bit torn on this. While I love the Hobbs character, I think he works best playing off of the characters around him. It’s his interactions with Vin Diesel’s far more straight-faced Dom Toretto or even just riffing with Elsa Pataky’s Elena that are the best. Place him in a movie where he’s riding solo all the time, and he might lose some of his charm as he’s essentially a walking action figure built in the 1980’s and that could get tired on its own. Surround him with some decent support characters though (obviously not the F&F crew), and maybe even take him out of his element a bit, and I would totally be onboard with a Hobbs movie.

What do you guys think? Should we have a Hobbs-centric spinoff?
